Coding is fun

I don't think I'll need a PlayStation 5 in 2021

I gave my word to my friend that I would launch my site today. I wish I hadn't made that promise because today is a day off! What am I doing with VS Code and over 20 browser tabs? This isn't how I imagined I'd be spending Independence Day. But a promise is a promise. I brewed my favorite green tea and plugged in my lucky sound-isolating earphones.

Ah, the good ol' familiar blank screen. Should I just create a basic website using plain HTML and CSS? No, I've done that too many times. I wanted to try something different, something new, something cool. With just a few hours left to deliever on my promise, this was risky. But, it's ambitious ideas like this one that inspires me to get it done.

What to do, what to do, I'm no CTO. Then, I remembered telling my friend to check out Next.js because their tech blew me away. Perfect, I will use Next.js and Vercel which I had never used before (I did try ZEIT which was the precursor to Vercel).

Everything looked unfamiliar with Vercel. My 20 some tabs grew to 40 and it was impossible to go back to the tab I wanted. I just kept pressing [ctrl + t] because it was faster to do a quick Google search than to switch tabs. My laptop's heat was now keeping my green tea warm. Nice.

A lot of unexpected things happened. I had to delete some files on my laptop because I was getting warning messages about running out of space (my linux partition is less than 90gb). And I'm not joking, my perfect mouse started to register my single clicks as double-clicks. Isn’t it funny how so many random things happen when you’re in a hurry? It had to be funny to me because I didn't have time to get stressed out. Things were not going well and I still had to write up my first blog post.

To my surprise, it took less than an hour to configure my domain to work with Vercel and Nextra. It wasn't easy because I didn’t have the luxury of time to read through the documentation, but with some patience and the power of trial-and-error, my site was officially online and everything worked!

I spent the next two hours rewriting and rewriting my first post until I was happy with it. Turns out I didn't even turn on music. My cup was still half-full of warm green tea. And I still hadn't bothered closing a single tab yet. Time flew by and honestly, I had more fun than fraggin' some wannabe pros on Call of Duty.

Thanks for reading. It's 11pm and I'm going to text email my friend. Good night.
